Excellent work, James. You get +2 Brownie points. Here's another one:

There is a man on the top floor of a tower. In front of him, there are three light bulbs set in a wall. On the first floor, there are three light switches, each of which correspond to one of the light bulbs. However, neither the bulbs nor the switches are numbered. Also present in the tower is a rickety old elevator which can only go down once and come back up once before it breaks. The man cannot see the light bulbs from the first floor, they are not in any order, and there are no stairs in the tower. The man wants to know which switch corresponds to which light. How does he do it?

If you don't want to see the answer then don't read the replies after the riddle until you've figured it out yourself ;)
