I love "Friends" sitcoms.
We watched a few minutes of a 1997 episode that started out with Monica's mom asking her to cater her party, but Monica wasn't too thrilled about it, because she thought that her mom would use this opportunity to critique Monica on her life, and tell her what she was doing wrong. Monica asks Phoebe to help her make food, but mostly for moral support. Monica's mom makes some comment about Monica's blue fingernail polish. And Rachel finds out that Chandler had a few drinks with her boss, and ended up spending the night.

I'm not sure if this is what you wanted, but I did my best of trying to respond.
