That really helps.

The 8th Flying Training Squardon emblem has the same features, and I can see it must have come from the WWII patch design.

FYI , The differences are:
On the WWII patch: the feather doesn't have the black chevron and extends beyond the (white) background, the lightning bolt is yellow and comes from the border of the (white) background, the brave is not similing, his head is not turned and not looking at you but looking in the direction he is walking (to the right) , the hatchet is sharp, the camera looks more like a camera, there is no cloud and ?island? with palm trees. The loin cloth is blue field, then gray outlining the field with a red outer border. The background is white with a (leather) brown outside border -where it has been sewn.
I guess with the change from a mean and determined scowl to a smile, and a sharp hatchet to a blunted weapon tells of a kinder and gentler nation(?) - changing the yellow lightning bolt to blue ??, and adding the island with palm trees (Pacific theater linage??)
I can see how you can become a collector.!!
