And it's a federal program so I believe the requirements are the same no matter where you are (of course I could be wrong it's happened once or twice!).

For instance today we had homemade pizza,

Cheese (protein)
tomato sauce (fruit/veggie)
Banana (fruit/veggie)
Crust (grain)
milk

Or if we have spaghetti,

Ground Beef (in the sauce)
tomato sauce
lettuce salad
spaghetti
milk

as you can see, lunches must consist of a protein, 2 fruits/veggies, a grain of some type either bread or pasta, and milk. Simple.

For breakfast you have to have a fruit/veggie, a grain (cereal, waffles, etc), and milk

Snacks must be a combination of 2 food items, either a fruit/veggie or grain, a protein and a grain, a fruit/veggie and a protein, or just milk and cookies! LOL

Once you get used to it it's very simple and not much hassle at all.
