Subject: how do you feel about this

Well there are two issues, one relating to propaganda and the american news media and the other regarding the use of non lethal chemicals being considered for use by the usa.

"NEW YORK - In submitting too easily to the official line on Iraq, the United States media have grandly fallen short of their all-important responsibilities to reflect diversity and to keep the government at arm's length, according to a group of journalism educators and working journalists.

They say that the country's dominant media corporations have presented the current buildup to war on Iraq with a shocking homogeneity that fails to reflect the pluralistic vibrancy that exists in the United States. In an open letter sent to major media outlets this week, more than two dozen professors, journalists and authors warned, "This is no time for relying solely on official sources and their supporters."

By the way al jazeera is considered biased in the same way as cnn and other us media, so this is not an attack against one news media in one country. There is a propaganda war going on on both sides. How can we critisize al j, when we are doing the same.
Are either side serving us well?

"If US forces were to use these agents, it would drive a wedge between themselves and their closest coalition partners, the British government, which is opposed to their use. On March 27, British Defense Secretary Geoff Hoon said in a press conference, "Non-lethal chemical weapons are permitted for dealing with riot control. The United Kingdom is - [inaudible] - signed up to the Chemical Weapons Convention, and they would not be used by the United Kingdom in any military operation or on any battlefield."

It is British policy not to allow troops to take part in operations where riot control agents are employed. The UK Ministry of Defense has reportedly warned the US that it will not allow British troops to be involved in operations where riot control agents are used, or to transport them to the battlefield. The International Committee of the Red Cross has also warned that use of such agents would violate the CWC."

I know that many would like to dismiss the validity of these news reports as being from a biased non western source, however the two issues are presented in british and international news media that are our allies or coalition partners. I know there is no comparison between the threat of chemical/biological attacks purported to be a threat from Iraq and the use of cs gas etc. But the main point is, Britain is against any use of chemical weapons in this situation. If the usa is allowed to use them do you think it is hypocritical to complain about others using them and do you think it could escalate or motivate others to use it against us.
