Just remember, what works for baby #1 won't work for baby #2 and so on and so forth.

I would recommend the following to start out:
1. bassinet or cradle for the first months - your little one will look - and feel - positively lost in that big crib. I had a cradle that rocked them to sleep - yeah!
2.some kind of bouncy seat or hammock, esp good if you have 2 floors, to have someplace to put baby down when you have to pee :) I had one that vibrated and both kids loved it (puts them to sleep - yeah!)
3. a swing (another handy invention that puts them to sleep - yeah!)
4. a changing table, for obvious reasons
5. don't go crazy picking the biggest and most expensive stroller. You'll probably want to have a couple, depending on your outing and baby's size/age. I've ended up buying 3!
6. Make sure you test the car seat in your car before you buy it...
7. You'll probably receive clothes to last for the first 6 months, so don't buy too much before baby comes. I've always chosen baby's 1st outfit myself, though (onesie, sleeper, socks, hat, blanket to wear right after birth). As for socks, I found that BabyGap were by far the best b/c they won't fall off!
8. I had a baby bathtub but only used it for about a month with both kids (they grow so fast!) I loved having special baby towels, washcloths & blankets. I used cloth diapers as burb pads.
9. Choose the most stylish diaper bag you can find. You'll get sick of carrying that thing sooooo fast....
10. Make sure you have a digital camera/video camera!
Good luck, sweetie. Let us know how the "registering" is going.
