Subject: The Butlerian Jihad--predictions

It had been my intention that I would not post anything about The Butlerian Jihad until I finished it, but I've changed my mind. I finally started reading it a few days ago (enjoying it quite a lot) and now am finished with the chapter where Xavier Harkonnen completes his military inspections of the League with Giedi Prime. I thought this chapter was pretty funny, because not only is the whole chapter spent painting a big target symbol on Giedi Prime, but it also finishes off with, "Oh, by the way, Giedi Prime is going to be attacked."

This got me thinking. I remember at least one review at amazon.com talking about how predictable this book is, saying that each chapter basically gives an outline of what's going to happen next. With this in mind, I thought it would be fun to test the book's predictability according to my ability to predict what's going to happen.

So, here is my prediction as of page 102: Giedi Prime will be attacked with biological weapons, and this will be the second major battle described in the book.

Other than that, I'm not sure how much I can really say at this point. Selim Wormrider is apparently going to become the leader of the pre-Fremen, and this will probably come to fruition somewhere in The Machine Crusade; although, I have no idea how he is possibly going to survive at this point, considering that he has already been in the desert for quite a while without doing anything about water, even going so far as to run across the open sand in the heat of the sun. The story revolving around the cymeks and Vorian Atreides is probably leading up to the Atreides-Harkonnen betrayal to take place in the third book. Also, I don't have a clue as to what the Bene Gesserit wannabes on Rossak are up to, nor can I see what circumstances will bring Aurelius Venport to take his search to Arrakis.

Hmmm ... it occurs to me that there's a lot I can't figure out yet. Oh well. I guess I'll post another prediction when I've read more.

P.S. Yes, I realize that these might include statements of the obvious; I just want to cover all of the bases in testing predictability.
