This is the second time I have read Dune and I know the story pretty damn well.

Reading through the book, Frank really doesn't explain a whole lot.

Everything you just said, I had always assumed (except for the pre-born Atreides thing), and I never had a problem with it until I reread.

I'm telling you, it is slightly confusing how Jessica gets ancestral memories and the sharing. In fact, I am looking at the passage right now and it says NOTHING about how Jessica has access to her ancestral memories. Nothing. The only memories that she gets are the experiences of Ramallo and all the experiences that she in turn had gained from when she became a Reverend Mother. She experiences no Other Memory before the sharing and then only after the sharing does she attain it. And then it says nothing about it being ancestral memory.

Also, they basically say that Alia goes through the same exact process and there is no futher explanation given of how or why she would have access to the male ancestral memories. It says she awakens to consciousness, and she then only becomes aware of the other voices when the sharing takes place. That is why I asked. It doesn't logically follow that she would have male ancestral memories.
In fact it doesn't logically follow that Alia or Jessica would have ancestral memories.

I am not saying you are wrong, only that in rereading the passage, it doesn't explain what I myself had thought to be the case.
