I'm not knocking the Pre's, just a minor gripe for the TV mini's. All in all I liked the mini's and enjoyed the actor who played Leto II (I own both DVD sets). The mini's focused on character relationships more and less on Dune/society relationships. The lack of water discipline was a problem for me.

We all have a favorite side to Dune and mine was the Fremen and how they were religiously, socially, technologically, and personally ADAPTED to Arrakis's unique ecological situation. It's interesting that when they move beyond the desert in 2 & 3, they become less perfect; "God created Dune to train the Faithful." The Fremen commit great atrocities when away from the Desert (The Jhihad) which was done very well on Night 1 of CoD miniseries. Pretty scary stuff considering current world events.

When reading Dune 1 on a boat to Alaska 20 years ago, I was disappointed when Frank skipped over the 2 years of Paul waging war against the Harkonens. I spent that summer in the Salmon industry and saw first hand how a local community/economy could be molded by its environment;each little Alaskan town was geared towards fish. Each town person thought in terms of water and fish. Water and fish: it changed everything, even how they drank in the pubs.

In the Pre's, I wished that BH and KA would have spent even more time with the Fremen and their society.
