I understand my calcs, as you say, are very broad. But who say's you need a habitable planet at every star? And every star isn't the same distance but, in 10,000 years you could find more than enough. Also, communication would be slow yes, but it would still be at light speed. Much faster than the ships themselves. There is nothing wrong with multigenerational ships. In fact this may be the way we actually do it. Nothing weird there. And how is this not fitting in with the Dune universe? Just because Brian and Keven(a star wars writer) wrote it you think you have to accept it? And Cenva, I just threw her in because everyone seems to have a problem letting go of this book. Brian says Dune was inhabited long before her so I guess it's true. Give me a break.

I loved the house trilogy. It's style was nice and it was well thought out. But Jihad was just too damn convienient to the point of anoyance. Dune is Scifi but Herbert meant it to be a possible future. I'm not saying my way was the right way but, Brian and Kevin's way wasn't as well. I am glad that you can find a way to accept this book. Sometimes I wish I could too because I wanted so much to be able to enjoy the Dune universe again. Maybe Dune 7 will be better but I have given up on the legends trilogy. I will read them because they are fun but I will never accept them as the way it happened.

I just can't get over the fact that humans could easily travel 100's of times the speed of light but still only use atomics as weapons. The universe I talked about had interstellar travel as well, and it makes spice even more important. The way it should be.

Have a good one!
