What the Bene Gesserit wanted or hoped for or were breeding for is totally irrelevant.

Paul was the KH but not what they expected.

I'm referring to a specific point in the book where Paul himself states that he is a mentat.

And sorry I don't agree that Paul could see into the past, I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm admitting I don't remember and will not say one way or the other.

I do think that I will now be re-reading (yet again) the book and looking specifically for details and proof of all these points.
