Yes, they expanded on her role, but they were very true to the book overall. Hey, it wasn't as bad as what they did with Wensicia, the character mentioned in one or two chapters, and made the focal bad guy in the miniseries.

Then they completely forgot to add in the Harq-al-Ada part, but I was impressed with the miniseries. And I expected the changes they made, they had done it with Irulan in the first movie, though I think they went a little overboard on the changes.
