I don't think their age had much to do with it, I rather enjoyed teenagers portraying them. The intimacy between the twins was very well done. Ghanima played her role very well, however Leto, wasn't so good.

In the book, I was given this impression of Leto. He was an arrogant brat who seemed to have an extreme hate for his father because he was too weak to go along the Golden Path. He never gave visions to his father, and never received visions from his father. I hated his character because he hated Muad'Dib, who I think was the best character in the books. Also, the Golden Path had nothing to do with freeing humanity of a prophet's vision (as this is later proved in other books), but was about expanding humankind so they wouldn't become extinct (the Scattering). He is also rather strong.

In the miniseries, he does not show any hate for his father. He appears to be weaker than his sister, which comes back as an irony when Ghanima says that "he was always the stronger". Basically, he's the opposite of the character in the book. However, I like this characterization better than the book's.
