I made a post in the previous thread before i saw this. It has many similar ideas you have here. I havn't read any prequels and havn't finished chapterhouse yet but I think all of what has happened builds up to this. I think Herbert purposely was consolidating human forces (BG+BT in Heretics and BG+HM in CH) to face a common enemy.

I also like the thought that, if a machine can be truly sentient, like humans; what would stop it from being prescient like paul/leto? I think that is the general direction where Herbert meant D7 to go. The question is will the machines be one single consciousness, an overmind controlling "lesser" machines, or many many advanced machines?
