i agree that the baron's own insatiable hungers alone could account for his grossness,in both size and character. it is open to speculation that, because they were getting close to the kwisatz hadarach, that mohiam became a central figure before and during and after her pregnancy to keep the infant safe in bg hands. also in most empires power is consolidated in reatively few families. think of hapsburg europe ancient china, rome, etc. i don't believe that it is too far fetched to expect the same in the future. it is probable that the real power in our world today is weilde by a handful of greedy men and their families. F. H.'s universe is much more vast but the power system could remain a model of our own, twisted system.
