Subject: VVS LAXATIVES R10 "Spew warns game too attractive"
In reply to: VVS LAXATIVES 's message, "VVS LAXATIVES Team Thread" on 13:02:03 03/29/06 Wed

Coach of India's RFL team, the top of the ladder VVS Laxatives, has warned RFL football is in danger of becoming "too attractive". Floodney Spew, who has so far coached his side to a record 12 wins in a row, said he was concerned that RFL games are not enough like soccer. "I've been watching the world cup and you can see how people love it, the crowds thrive on a nil all draw. Footy must be more like this" Spew said. Spew has carved a niche as the RFL's master tactician with sides that stifle opposition teams.

Spew has been advocating an offside rule in football for a number of years. "it would work beautifully, imagine - no forwards behind the defenders, it would bring the crowds in. Many of our fans turn up expecting a soccer match and get terribly disappointed by the free flowing nature of the game. We're marketing strongly and running focus groups to ensure we inform our members we are not a soccer team, but there are 26 million of them and a mailout is a major operation. We got the players involved to help the admin staff early in the season but Barry Hall ended up missing a game with paper cuts and Anthony Rocca got ill from licking the envelopes."

Spew suggested the off side rule could mean a reduction of the playing area meaning more space for fans "I think we could cut the grounds in half and just have all players starting in their defensive halfs and start off playing kick to kick. This means more people could fit in which would be justified because of the greater interest the new style of game would attract." Spew dismissed claims football would lose it's uniqueness "I think it's up to the other codes to change and become more like footy or perhaps create a whole new game altogether. We have to look after the fans, they come first".
