In reply to: Beth 's message, "It just seems like death is so cruel..." on 19:42:44 08/06/06 Sun

but my grandma's other cousin Berdina suffered long for her addiction to smoking. In defense of that generation I can see where they were reluctant to believe cigarettes were bad...Anyway, she had to carry oxygen around with her the last years of her life. I'm glad I got to see my grandfather before he died. I got to hold his hand and tell him it was ok. We would all be ok - even if we didn't believe it. Papa raised Shannon and I. He was the father my own wasn't man enough to be. After his heatattack he didn't linger longer than a week. He and I had a conversation after Dini died where we agreed she was in a much better place and we were happy for her (sad for us). Until she had gotten phenmonia (sorry about spelling) she had been running around and going camping with my grandparents ect. She did LOTS of things...and then she thought she had the flu and it was all over. The years that followed were slow and a struggle. I'd much rather go quickly than linger for years unable to enjoy life the way I once did. I think a wheelchair would have been easier to accept.

Life and death can both be cruel...but when death stays out of reach for those who need it's peace that is the most cruel...

Brandie
