my friend Martha said she figured that since the kids are 5th graders, I should just suck it up. The problem is, Liam is not the kind of kid who is ever going to worry about this. So, my option is to worry for him or let him get 1s and 2s all year.

I want him to feel successful...that's why I worry. The teacher knows I'm working on responsibility with Liam...Liam forgot his lunch and backpack the second day of school and I just made him deal with it...I didn't go get it for him. I let the teacher know what was going on...maybe that's why he wouldn't give him the words.

I guess the next time I see him I'll ask what the procedure is when words get lost.

This is a real taste of what next year will be like, eh??? I've heard parents say that the middle school teachers give the kids, even 6th graders, zero support. Due to safety issues they can't carry backpacks during the day...and they don't have time to go to their lockers except at lunch. I can't imagine what will happen when Liam has to deal with hauling half a dozen loose books and notebooks all over school all day. I'm not guessing that it will be pretty!
