On Friday we went to Lindsborg to get Liam from camp. He was all packed, but it still took almost 2 hours to get checked out, grab lunch, and hit the road.

We didn't get to the motel in the Springs until about 9:30. After checking in we went to I-Hop for dinner. We had a very nice waitress and the food was great...a nice way to end the day.

We were so blessed the next morning. As I'd unloaded the car that night, some stuff fell out out. I thought I picked it up...but the next morning when I went to the car, there was my checkbook tucked under my wiper blade!!! I had purposely parked between two SUVs that had religious bumper stickers...it paid off!!!

Liam wanted to go to The Cave of the Winds, so we did. Have I ever told you I have an issue with caves? I didn't until I started reading Tolkien and Lewis. They both have caves in their stories, and from them I got a wierd claustrophobia thing even thinking about caves. This one wasn't too bad. There were only a three or four places that were tight or low. It was about a 45 minute tour. They warn you that it has 200 stairs...but half of them went up and half went down, and they weren't all in one spot, so it didn't seem like it. The kids enjoyed the experience. Well, Liam didn't like it when they turned all the lights off...but they liked everything else. I'm hoping my pics from down inside the cave turned out!

Next we went to Garden of the Gods. We ate at the Post their. Liam was grossed out because I ordered a buffalo burger, lol! We also had a funny experience while eating. I was attacked by a tomato hookworm caterpillar! It was the peskiest thing...tried to hook onto my ankle, then my shoe. I put it in the bushes and it headed over to bug the table next to us!

Next we headed into the park itself. At the first stop, the window of doom wouldn't roll up. I was freaking out. Usually if I turn my car off and restart it, it rolls up. Not this time! The guy in the next car mentioned that his cellinoid went out and it did that...but he'd have to drive a bit to get it to roll up. So, I got the kids back in the car, and thankfully the guy was right! I was thinking we'd spend half our first day in the Springs at the dealership! We went up to the visitors center and watched a movie about how the Garder formed, then took a bus tour. I'm glad we did...we got A LOT of information that you can't get any other way. There were big horn sheep on the top of one set of rocks. The kids got a kick out of that. There were also several sets of rock climbers the day we were there. After that we drove down to the main parking lot and went in to walk around. The kids had a great time. We met some nice people to chat with. I have to say, people in Colorado are a lot friendlier than folks around here. It was around 6 when we left. I kind of wanted to stay to watch the bats come out at dusk, but the kids had other agendas.

We went back to the hotel to swim. I've already mentioned that the pools were fairly gross. We swam for about an hour, then got showered and headed out for dinner. Liam had spotted a McDonalds playland on the way into town, so that's where we went. I wanted to go to Guisseppi's at the Depot, but figured they'd be miserable sitting after such a long day. So, they played and I chatted with a couple from there about things to do in the area.

On Sunday we went to mass in the Southgate area. It was one of those parishes where either everyone is OLD or the young people all go to one certain mass. My kids were the only ones in the church. Matter of fact, I'd guess the average age of the folks there was around 60. Still, it was a pretty little church and the priest was friendly.

Then we headed up to the North Pole. I was kicking myself. I had printed out two coupons for it. One was half price...but when I got there I realized it had expired last month. Even tho they offer the very same coupon now, they wouldn't honor it! So, instead of costing us $24 to get in, it was $39. UGH. They did take the second coupon, at least, so I didn't have to pay full price ( $48). The kids had the BEST time. They rode rides from 10:30 am until 5 pm...stopping just once for lunch. Just as Liam did when he was this age, Teiguen refused to go in and see Santa, lol! He assured me that Santa knew he was there and that was good enough. How funny. Both of them being freaked out by the idea of seeing Santa in July! Amazingly, at the end of the day Liam went on two of the faster rides- a mountain thing that takes you backword and forword, and the tilt-a-whirl. Teiguen went on both of them, too!!! Actually, Liam decided to do the Tilt-a-Whirl 7 times in a row while Teiguen and I did other rides. I was amazed that he was willing to try the faster rides!

After we left there we went down to the Springs to see Monster House. I THOUGHT I'd purchased tickets to see it in 3-D, as there was an ad in the paper saying that it was in 3-D at selected theatres, listing 4 theatres in that box. Nope. I thought Liam was going to cry. The movie was good, though. Not nearly as scary as I expected. They show most of the scary stuff in the previews.

After that we headed down to Canon City.
