In reply to: Beth 's message, "LOL! Yeah, now my kids have white-trash memories of their own!" on 16:27:44 06/22/06 Thu

I swear something happened to my grandmother when she was a child because I was never allowed to babysit and seldom to go over to friends's houses or spend the night because she and my mother were afraid that I would be molested. It is very weird, they also have a thing against public toilets for the same reason.

Our family was the worst white trash mess in the neighborhood. My parents are loud, screamed at each other in the front yard and if you can overlook the fact that they didn't drink--I tellyou that they were a mess.
Our house was always in a state of falling down with peeling paint and the back yard covered in broken down cars and junk everywhere. Dad changed the oil by pouring it in the yard (lovely) Our cars were held together with duct tape and our station wagon actually had a push button start that dad cut off a toy and hotwired to the ignition. We all had towells and our job in the winter or rain was to keep wipping the windows because we had no defroster or heat and definatelly no airconditioning int he summer.
Throw in our dog with a skin disease and a few other priceless memories that I try to forget, I think sometimes that the whole thing was a bad Vern movie (my family's favorite actor btw!!!)

I feel bad for my kids sometimes. Last Mother's Day my mother was in a restraunt and just reached over and started eating off of Colin's plate and then put the half eaten food back on the same plate. Colin has a real paranoia of people touching his food and everyone knows it. He started to cry quietly and then my mother had the nerve to start yelling and berrating him in the restraunt and I had to stop her, order him new food and vow to never take my kids out to eat with them again, and I haven't. It wasn't the first time memebers of my family have acted like that in a restraunt. UGH!

I guess at least I got out of the babysitting because I am sure my mother would have volunteered me to do it. My horrible job was working out at the State Fair grounds in the concession stand from 8 in the morning until 3 the next morning on weekends during the summer, special events and the 2-3 week run of the State Fair and then having to get up and and go to school on Monday mornings on what 4 hours of sleep totally stained from snow cone syrup and then getting paid just enough money to buy my own school clothes and school supplies!!!

We never had the swat team at our house just the fire department trying to break the door in once because the had the wrong address. Like I said we were the trashy people in the neighborhood. As an adult I have done my best to blend to the wall and go through life totally unnoticed!!!!

Christine
