What a world, eh? My stepfather used to get me roped into babysitting gigs like yours. It was his drinking buddies. To be honest, looking back, I think he told them not to bother paying me because he hated me.

The first time it was a case of the dad worked nights, mom worked days. I sat for the kids during the day for two weeks. I was SUPPOSED to get paid every two weeks. On payday the gal told me she only had $5, and that was all she could give me. For 80 hours of work??? I refused to go back the next Monday. My stepfather was pissed, but I sure as hell wasn't going to work for free!

The next family was just what you described. Two families of horrible, horrible children. In a trailer. With extra kids dumped in on top of that. Again, at the end of the night they mysteriously couldn't pay me. And, to top that, they said they'd be home by 11 and didn't get home until almost 2. They'd also told the kids they didn't have to go to bed until they got home, so there I was with half a dozen little shits ages 2 to 8 who were still wide awake at 2!

They told me if I'd come back the next weekend they'd pay me for both days. I told them that if they paid me for that night and the next night- in advance- I would. If not, forget it.

Sounds like your mom and my stepdad ran in the same circles, doesn't it????
