If we didn't have my parents tenet laws in TX require the landlord to foot the bill at a hotel or apartment - so we'd be covered there.

The landlords aren't really being caviler; they just haven't lived here in over 20 years and they have no idea what the construction business is like. One of the elders at church actually pulled some strings for us to get the floor gueys out there sooner. (Of course then my landlords pissed them off by being jackasses to them and they took a few days longer just to make a point.) He - the elder - owns a contracting business here. He said if there wasn't a single new house started in Amarillo for 9 months they still couldn't catch up. The area is absolutely exploding population wise and there is more work than people to do it.

We pay $650 a month for this house and even if they raise the rent $100 or so a month we couldn't move somewhere else for what we are paying. A crappy house down the street from us - 2 bedrooms in not so great shape - rents for $850. The landlords not being in this area helps us there because they have no clue we are renting this at way below market value. When we moved there we tripled our sq footage for only $125 increase in rent. We were renting a 740 sq ft 2bdrm for $425. We'd looked at tons of houses this size all for $900 a month and up and that was 6 years ago.

We are still hoping to buy this place when Chris gets out of school and we are in a position to do so. We moved there thinking we'd buy with in the year, but then we had to spend all our money on Chris' dad and his funeral.

The thought of packing all my stuff and moving is enough to make me start looking for rooms in the looney bin. As bad as it's been I really think moving would be worse. I HATE to move with a passion and I have 2 more kids than I had when we moved in.
