Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way! I had friends in high school who worked as maids at local hotels and learned how little cleaning really takes place in hotels.

It is probably worse in tourist towns, which is where I grew up. Most of the people who stayed there were tourists who realized they weren't going to make it to their destination that night, gave up, and got a room.

The motels had two things in their favor. One: maybe 2% of their business was return business. If you'll never see the customer again, what do you care what they think of your motel? Two: we were the last decent sized town going west before you hit the river and mountain roads. Nobody wants to drive those at night, so the motels in town were at 100% capacity from June through September every year!

I'm leaning towards booking at the bed and breakfast there in Linsborg even tho I won't get points on my travel card, lol, in the thought that the owners live there, too, so they would have a high stake in not having critters and cooties!
