對於「搶包山」的印象，仍然停留在那七十年代的電視畫面：
三座十幾層樓高的竹棚，上面掛滿數以千計的大包，圍觀的人也數以千計。一聲號令，穿背心短褲甚至赤膊上陣的勇士們，不顧一切、蜂湧而上，爭相爬上「山頂」，徒手摘大包……摘不到幾十秒，包山因負荷不了重量，攔腰斷裂而倒下，連包帶人向圍觀的人群壓下去……
記憶中，那次事件死了好些人，於是「搶包山」這個傳統活動被禁止舉辦了釵h年。
直到近一兩年，「搶包山」經過改良後「復活」：由工程師設計出來的新款包山，總覺得它沒有以前的棚架包山那麼高聳入雲。參加「搶包山」的勇士，都要經過大會嚴格選拔，個個都是攀山或攀牆高手，甚至是消防員；只見他們全副攀山裝備，又有爬山鞋又有空全繩的，比起「職業特工隊」不遑多讓。
看這種「高科技搶包山」，總覺很不是味兒。它失去了「搶包山」應有的味道：鄉土味。
打個比喻，最好看的沙灘排球，是隨便在加州的一個沙灘，一班年輕美女美男個個泳裝上陣，在沙灘上飛撲救球。養眼之餘，整件事充滿陽光味、加州味，以及香汗味。
若把沙灘排球搬到室內舉行，就失去所有味道了！
