一九七七年那齣《星球大戰》，帶給了我們「激光劍」。（註：《星球大戰》雖然最早上映，但它乃《星戰》電影系列的第四集。）
激光劍，一把像手電筒的東西，可是一按掣，一束熒光紅（或藍或綠）的「激光」自「電筒」中伸展出來，成為先進的殺人武器。可是，原來在《星戰》的世界中，它並不先進，而是「上一代武士們的古老武器」。（註：所謂上一代，就是《星戰前傳》一、二、三集了。）
不過在七十年代，激光劍帶給我們的衝激是相當大的！只見片中黑武士的紅色激光劍，與奧比溫師傅的藍色激光劍激戰連場，最後奧比溫按掣、收劍、棄戰，黑武士趁機紅劍一揮，奧比溫被劈中，但居然整個人消失了！於是我們一直以為，激光劍可以劈到對方馬上消失，勁！（註：後來續集才交代，原來奧比溫並未死得晒……）
《星球大戰》之後，激光劍成了潮流。玩具激光劍當年賣到斷市，但它正正就是手電筒，只不過加上幾節可以伸縮的透明膠管。日本的機械人們自此也用激光劍來作武器，始作俑者就是「高達」了。（《星戰》隨想曲之一）
