已經有近四十年歷史的日本超人 Ultraman（香港俗稱「鹹蛋超人」），最近宣告變革失敗。
超人都要搞變革？不難想像。一套在一九六七年首播的劇集，能夠大熱發展成為系列，絕對不奇；但要屹立近四十年，不斷吸納新一代觀眾，則絕非易事。不變，是沒有可能的。
今年於日本播出的《Ultraman Nexus》，就來了一次巨變。首先，它不再是集集完故事（超人一集打一隻怪獸），而採用了連續劇形式，有主線劇情不斷推進。每集結尾都會有個高潮，打出「to be continue……」的字幕。
以往劇中超人的真正身份，必定是「地球防衛隊」的成員之一，亦即全劇的第一主角；今次，第一主角仍然是「防衛隊」成員，但超人卻不是他變的！變身者，是一個戰地記者。更驚人的是，這位超人的真身，竟然會在中段死去，轉由另一個新人來變身！
這一切的突破與變化，肯定是想吸納成年人觀眾。可是，最近製作公司已公布《Nexus》只會播到第三十八集（正路該有五十集），於七月改播另一個新超人《Ultraman Max》：走回兒童路線，一集打一隻怪獸……
