香港回歸之前，當大家知道九七後每年的七月一日，會被定為公眾假期，相信都會覺得十分高興。當然啦，假期喎，沒有人會嫌多的吧！
然而，大家似乎都高興得太早了。
甚麼是「假期」？所謂「假期」，除了是不用上班、不用上學之外，我們還可以在當天隨意選擇，跟自己喜歡的人、親友（甚至是自己一個人），去做自己想做、喜歡做的事，不必受人左右，毋須向人交代，完全自由。
假使在假期當天都要上班，那是職責所在，無可厚非，然而那個假期，就不是「真假期」了（卻不能說是「假假期」，很難讀）。又假使年年在該個假期日，都有個團體活動你非但一定要參與，還要幫手做義工，那麼，那個假期對你來說，也不是「真假期」。
說回「七一」。回歸了咁多年，我都未放過假；皆因我從事傳媒行業，點可能放「七一」？莫說放假了，有些做港聞的行家，肯定在「七一」會比平日更加忙碌呢！
每年「七一」在辦公室看新聞，都看到市民上街呀、示威呀等，那當然也是「自由」活動。但我往往心想：如果我有假放，一定不會選擇如此度過！
