雖云「講求環保需要付出代價」，然而所謂「代價」卻不一定是金錢代價。
政府宣傳節約用水，卻叫市民選購「雙制式沖廁水廂」，實在是「只知用錢去解決問題」的一種心態，其實並不可取。事實上，大家絕對可以不花分文，就同樣做到節省沖廁水的效果。
找一個用完的兩公升（或一點二五公升）汽水膠樽，將之注滿清水，然後封緊瓶說C把這瓶水放入廁所水廂內的空間，注意要固定瓶身，不要讓它阻礙到沖廁機關的運作，那就搞掂了！
原理太簡單了！簡單到我不必在此細說。反正如此做的話，以後你每一下沖廁都會比以往節省兩公升（或一點二五公升）的水；於是乎一個月慳幾多？一年慳幾多？絕對有數得計！
在這個例子中，為環保而付出的代價，只是一個本來你會扔掉的膠樽，以及你大約五分鐘的 DIY 時間。反之，如果聽信政府的話，去換一個「雙制式沖廁水廂」，至少也得花費一千幾百元吧，還要專登安排一天找師傅上門安裝……這兩種「環保的代價」，你會選邊種？
