假設,某公司要主辦一個國際性的大會,必須委派一名公司代表擔任主持人。到時,全世界的焦點都會集中在這個會場,是故主持人的表現不容有失。
──作為該公司的領導層,你會如何去選出那個公司代表、大會主持呢?
如果是A公司,他們會在大會正式舉行的三個月到半年前,一早就對外公布公司心目中的適當人選,高調地委以重任。之後的日子,該人選就會集中精神,全力為大會的主持任務而接受各種強化訓練。未到大會日,主持人早就成為了家傳戶曉的名字,是故大家除了對他有理性的支持外,還會多幾分感性的鼓勵。
反之,如果是C公司,他們會秘密地鎖定多位人員,讓他們秘密地受訓。未到大會的日子,沒有人會知道誰是最終人選,因為連公司領導層也不知道;要等大會舉行前一兩天,才由專家顧問依據人員們的狀態,敲定誰會擔此重任。外間也要到最後一刻,才會得悉誰被選中。
這是完全兩種不同的管理哲學,各有好壞,沒有對錯。正如美國太空總署會選A公司的模式,而中國國家航天局則選C公司模式,二者都能達成艱巨的征空任務。
