忽然有衝動，想買一部日漸普及的 DVD 錄影機。原因？既說是「衝動」，其實毋須要甚麼原因的。
只不過，家中的 DVD 機（齋 Player）乃多年前買下的老款式，機身笨重，弁鄍蝚蛫儭走寣F而家中的錄影機，也用得愈來愈少，徒佔空間。反觀市場上新出的 DVD 錄影機，機身纖巧，內置硬碟盤，錄影電視節目時直接錄入硬碟即可，有需要保留時才從硬碟燒錄到 DVD，十分方便。換言之，買一部 DVD 錄影機就可同時取代 DVD 機及錄影機，節省空間，簡化操作，DVD 碟亦比錄影帶易於收藏，絕對諗得過。
細想之下，傳統家用錄影機似乎已成為「瀕臨絕種」的電器。記得它在八十年代初出現，且是雙胞胎，有 Betamax 和 VHS 兩兄弟；但兩兄弟天生為敵，結果 VHS 徹底打敗了 Betamax，統領市場二十年。曾有好一陣子，香港人的最流行娛樂就是租帶看，錄影帶店開到成行成市。
可是，強如恐龍也有滅絕的一天。看如今的走勢，傳統錄影機大約在三、五年內就會「絕種」，像卡式錄音機、LD 機一般的命運。前後活不到三十歲，錄影機可真是英年早逝了。
