一九九八年，「世嘉」推出了其 128-bit 的夢幻遊戲機 DreamCast（簡稱 DC），正式展開了「第二次次世代遊戲機大戰」的序幕。
當其時，另兩大勢力在市場上的機種顯然相對落後。Sony 的 PlayStation 雖然領導市場，但只是 32-bit 的機器而已；「任天堂」的 N64 雖然是 64-bit，但仍不及 DreamCast。當然，兩間公司的下一代機種早已在開發中，只等看準時機才出招吧！
終於在二○○○年 Sony 推出 PS2 迎戰，「任天堂」亦於翌年推出 GameCube；一場三國大戰又再成形！DreamCast 雖然佔了先機，但後來居上的 PS2 及 GameCube 在性能上又比它超前了好幾個馬位；「世嘉」在今仗輸得一敗塗地，最終壯士斷臂宣布 DreamCast 停產，並從此退出遊戲機市場，改而為其他遊戲機開發遊戲軟件。
「世嘉」退戰，但「第二次遊戲機大戰」卻並未告一段茖，反而更因為有了新的參戰者，而進入新一輪激戰！這個新勢力就是首度染指遊戲機市場的美國電腦大鱷 Microsoft！二○○一年 Xbox 面世，力挑 PS2 及 GameCube！（未完待續）
