如果說手塚治虫是「日本漫畫之神」的話，稱橫山光輝為「聖」，似乎亦相當恰當。
就像「詩仙」李白的橫空出世，「漫神」手塚從《小飛俠》到《小白獅》，從《怪醫》到《佛陀》到《火之鳥》，可謂奇想縱橫、神遊天外。其境界之高之廣，至今無人能及。
橫山早期亦走奇想風格，繪出了《鐵人28號》、《巴別二世》等科幻漫畫經典。後來另闢蹊徑，改走人文寫實路線，專攻歷史漫畫，由《三國》到《水滸》到《項劉》到《史記》，無不是洋洋數十集的巨著。表面上是「悶蛋」漫畫，但依然暢銷，多年來不斷再版；《橫山光輝之三國志》更成為一獨立品牌，出動畫出遊戲。
「既生瑜，何生亮」這句話，對橫山起不了作用。日本漫畫界有「漫神」手塚，一樣可以有「漫聖」橫山。
橫山於本月十五日一次火災中不幸離世，終年六十九。可以肯定的是，就像手塚一樣，日本人亦會為橫山建立紀念館。手塚謝世已十五年，而「手塚治虫紀念館」位於寶塚市，詳情可參黎漍鴭x方網頁（http://ja-f.tezuka.co.jp/），有英文解說。
