之前寫過，說現今這個世代其實很武俠；不過從偵探小說的角度來看，這個世代也很偵探──不，準確點說，我們的懸案太多，偵探太少。
歷史懸案之多，已經不消提了；甚麼巨石柱之謎、麥田怪圈之謎、尼斯湖水怪之謎、傑克屠夫之謎、甘迺迪被刺之謎、雍正改詔之謎等，我們由細聽到大、由細「謎」到大也沒有結案。
說到近年的懸案，也屢見不鮮。例如某地領導人選舉，候選人居然在選舉活動期間離奇中槍；大難不死，自然當選。政府委派所謂國際專家專案調查，但結論竟然說因為找不到兇器而沒有結論；又一世紀懸案，自此畫上不能擦去的問號。
又例如近日本港公眾泳池出現紅蟲，官方說法亦紛紜。有調查報告指泳池遊樂設施積水，引至蚊蟲滋生；但亦有官員堅決否認此說，強烈暗示乃人為整蠱，槍頭直指較早前因勞資糾紛而罷工的救生員，將原本一件公共衛生問題「懸案化」。
這件案好玩，因為涉及連環犯案（多個泳池），又似乎有疑犯和動機，卻又有反方證據，現在只欠一位「名偵探柯南」，出來還大家一個真相。
