某同事家中的電錶總掣壞了數天，除了電燈外，所有電器皆無電可用，令他苦不堪言。
他這幾晚一回到家中，就完全無事可做。既無電視可看，更無碟可煲（包括CD、VCD、DVD等碟），上網、玩電腦亦不用想；娛樂活動等於零，悶到了極點，唯一解悶之法，就是早點上床睡覺。
「這幾天，絕對是對我這個現代文明人的一大考驗！」他感歎道。
如果，這個「考驗」的題目是「一旦沒有了現代科技產品，你還可以快樂地生活嗎？」，那麼此君所取得的分數，肯定相當之低。換作是你，又會怎樣？
我有信心，會比他高分些。因為，只要仍然有燈，我就一定會乘機挑燈夜讀，讀戴﹛C家中藏書數以千計，未讀過或未讀畢的，少算也有四分之一，再加上值得一讀再讀的，足以消磨我無數個夜晚；就算連電燈也壞埋，但只要有蠟燭，一樣有得讀，絕對不會悶！
此外，我又可以逗弄家中那兩頭可愛寵物：金毛肥倉鼠和長毛獅子兔！兩者皆習慣晝伏夜出，日間大覺瞓，夜晚鬼咁精神；我大可以和牠們玩個通宵，好開心㗎！
書本和寵物，既不必用電亦不需高科技，個人認為是家居必備的要素。但，電子書和電子寵物，就另當別論了。
