昨日提到經典科幻小說《二○○一：太空漫遊》，意猶未盡，今日繼續漫遊。
阿瑟克拉克這部作品，初步構思始於一九四八年；當時他寫了一部四千字的短篇故事《The Sentinel》，去參加英國BBC電台贊助的一個小說比賽，卻落敗了。
十六年後（一九六四年），導演史丹利寇比力克主動接觸克拉克，想找他合作拍一部前所未有的科幻片，於是二人就以《The Sentinel》為藍本，發展出《二○○一：太空漫遊》這個劇本來。小說和電影同時於一九六八年面世，驚世駭俗之餘，不單止立即成為科幻小說及科幻電影的經典（獲該年奧斯卡四項提名，得最佳視覺效果獎），更直接影響現實中的太空探索計畫（隨便舉一例：美國其中一架太空穿梭機「Discovery發現號」，正是依據《二○○一》中的太空船而命名，特別向克拉克致敬）。
八十年代，克拉克先後撰寫續集《二○一○：太空漫遊二》及《二○六一：太空漫遊三》，前者亦在一九八三年被拍成電影。當世人都以為這系列會以三部曲告終時，克拉克在一九九七年以八十歲之高齡，又再寫出《三○○一：最終漫遊》；真正跨越千年，絕不簡單！
