二○○四年伊始，忽發奇想：一百年前的世界是怎樣的？於是上網尋找有關一九○四年的資料。
一九○四年的中國，仍處於苦難時代；清廷剛取消了科舉制度，積弱不堪。同年，日俄兩國在中國東北開戰，把中國土地和人命極盡蹂躪。日本當時仍佔據台灣，派駐一位台灣總督府民政長官治理；一九○四年時的台督名為後藤新平，他於該年巡視阿里山，準備興建阿里山鐵路。
講起鐵路，香港電車公司於一九○四年成立。這一年，第十三任港督到任，他的名字無人不曉，正是彌敦；香港由斯年開始，正式採用格林威治國際時間。
國際體壇首次見證籃球賽，乃於一九○四年奧運會的室外表演項目，主辦城市為美國聖路易斯。同年，紐約茶商沙里曼發明了茶包；共和黨人羅斯福當選美國總統；聯邦政府卻宣布無限期實施《排華法案》，令中國沿海商埠發起抵制美貨的愛國運動。
說起愛國人士，一九○四年孫中山在檀香山成立了「興中會」；秋瑾亦於同年在日本東京創辦《白話報》，主張女性受教育、男女平等。
也部A最重要的是，一九○四年八月二十二日，鄧先聖於四川出生，他就是後來的鄧小平。
