梅艷芳的《夕陽之歌》，雖然比同一旋律陳慧嫻的《千千闕歌》較遲上市，但仍能化解聽眾對《千》先入為主的不利因素，結果兩曲得以平分春色；梅艷芳的實力，由此可見一斑。
這種「撞歌之戰」，當年經常發生。時為八十年代，把歐美日流行曲改編成廣東歌的風氣仍盛。一首大熱外語歌，往往同時被幾家本地唱片公司看中，分別譜上廣東詞，由不同的歌手演繹。這種「撞歌」情況下，通常只會有一首可以「跑出」打入流行榜。像《夕陽之歌》與《千千闕歌》能同時入選全年十大金曲，是絕無僅有的例子。
另一場著名的「撞歌之戰」，卻明顯由梅艷芳勝出。話說八十年代紅極一時的英國二人組合 Wham（有人譯做「威猛樂隊」），其首本慢板情歌《Careless Wisper》在全球大熱，於是又掀起一場將之廣東化的競賽。
率先出爐的，是蔡國權填詞兼主唱的版本，名為《無心快語》。這版本亦曾流行過一陣子，可是當梅艷芳出擊後，就完全被遺忘了。
梅艷芳的版本名為《夢幻的擁抱》，由鄭國江填詞，是她八五年大碟的主打歌。同碟歌曲還有《似水流年》、《蔓珠莎華》等經典；你話嘞，邊有得打？
