我們人類，常自命為地球上最高等的生物。這個觀念，到底會否有錯呢？
當然，若從智慧、科技、文明的層面來說，人類是高等的。人類從遠古開始懂得使用工具、火種、語言文字，到今時今日廣泛應用機器、電腦，建高樓、探宇宙；以這種種發展與成就而言，人類的確是在地球上一等一的生物。
可是，若從生存的層面來說，人類高等嗎？絕不。
病毒，這種似乎很低等的生物，其生存力卻絕對要比人類高出很多！病毒引起疫症威脅人類，人類研究方法將之打壓，但很可能只在一兩天之間，新一代的病毒已然變種得更強，打壓方法即時無效！
我常想道：有朝一日，地球若遭大劫，荷里活所有末日片全部成真的話（殞石撞地球、火山超勁爆、核子大災難等），全人類話咁快就可滅絕；但即使如此，病毒也可以存活！
唔好講到咁遠。住慣高樓大廈的人們，到隔離營住幾天都牙痛咁聲，嫌三嫌四；如果遇上更要命的災劫，我就不相信這種「高等」人類可以有能力求存。
在求生存而言，愈是被人類看為「低等」的生物，其實愈是高等。另一個不用多說的例子是：蟑螂！
