I used to feel the same way when I entered my local Chinatown pageant (swimsuits became the requirement for the first time the year I tried), but I understand why it was done, and frankly, I'm glad that the choice was made to include a swimsuit portion because I had to compete at nationals where there WAS a swimsuit competition. At MCI, we know that swimsuits are a pretty big deal at the pageant -- heck, the girls even conduct interviews in them -- so if they do not have the experience in their locals, it is a totally different ballgame when it comes to the bigger event. It's good to get the practice in.
