>I'm glad I found this site also. I too have a dog who suddenly began losing most of his hearing. He is a Border Collie. Right now I am investigating the fact that it may have been ototoxicity. This is caused by different drugs introduced in the ear, usually for an ear infection. If the dog is sensitive to the anti-biotic, etc, then it can induce hearing loss. After researching this, I found that also, some dog ear washes can cause hearing loss if the ear drum is perforated. I am so sad right now, because the vet prescribed this for me without telling me about the side effect of possible hearing loss in a small number of dogs. Have you found out anything about your dog's hearing yet? Today I am going to go to the vet that prescribed the Tri-Otic ear ointment to me & discuss my options. Hopefully he will call the nearest vet college & get some of the latest options. Don't know if this helps you at all about a cause of the hearing loss in your Aussie. I know that I was hoping for a clump of ear wax, or something else blocking the ear drum. Hope you have better news than I do.
