GREAT! We just adopted a sheltie under the same circumstances. We have a hearing collie.

Check out deafdogs.org. Buy a pocket guide of AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE. Buy LIVING WITH A DEAF DOG and HEAR! HEAR! TRAINING A DEAF PUPPY. Buy a small, handheld flashlight and cover it with white paper as to not hurt the puppy's eyes. Research clicker training and use the flashlight as a clicker.

We adopted our boy on Jan 29 and he is housebroken, crate trained, and knows NO, STOP, GOOD BOY, SIT, DOWN, EYE CONTACT, GO TO YOUR CRATE, and LET'S GO FOR A WALK. We just had to learn sign language and figure out what motivated the little bugger (beef jerky).

You can do this. Just be patient and positive. Pet your dog A LOT and socialize him by taking him everywhere you can. Never, ever let him off a leash, ever.

Good luck!

Kristy
