Subject: Need help on not startling deaf dog

Hello. I am posting with the hope someone can help us. We adopted a special needs dog: 14 yr old golden retreiver w/arthritis and atrophy and deaf. We need help figuring out how to wake her w/o startling her. The loudest of noises do not register. Vibrations (stamping on the floor) only sometimes work if she is LIGHTLY dozing. Light isn't helping. We tried gentle stroking and reward and she still startles badly upon waking. Given she is recently adopted we are extra interested in giving her a calm life. Can anyone help? Thank you for your time and efforts.
