Author: I dont think so!!!!
Subject: My objections to your protests

I have to say that i SUPPORT the tower and i have a few problems with some of the arguments that protestors are putting forward. I am a 17-year-old Oatley West resident and a member of All Saints Oatley West Soccer Club
(1) The Orange tower is not an ugly eyesore. The tower looks almost identical to the old light tower that once stood in its place, only with a small (a few metres) addition to the top of it. The shed across the road is hardly noticeable, and there has been minimal removal of vegetation around the immediate site of the tower. I know this because i have been to soccer training twice a week for the past 10 years at Oatley Park
(2) The effects of EMR are not significant. Mobile handsets, overhead powerlines, computers, microwaves
emit more radiation than the tower.
(3) Due to YOUR protesting, the ASOW club has been greatly
inconvenienced. We first had to train at gannons park for a month, and we now train under temporary lights that emit
diesel fumes (which adds to pollution by the way) and take
up our valuable time as we turn them on and move them. What happened to the light poles that our club paid 1/3 of
the cost for? Due to protesting, we no longer have these light poles. There will now be MORE poles in oatley park because of protesting. When we we get our lightpoles back?
I am very angry and disappointed about the bad treatment
our club has received from all parties.
(4) You say (correct me if im wrong) that the tower is harmful to OWPS children. How is it that the power was erected, unless it passed the LEGAL REQUIREMENTS that set out safety guidelines for the towers. As mentioned earlier, overhead light poles, microwaves etc. are more harmful to the children than this tower.
*** I also want to note that i visited the park during some of the protests and i was disgusted by the behaviour of some of the protestors. I do not think that swearing openly in front of children, as well as smoking and acting immaturely, is any example to set for children. I acknowledge that this issue has evoked passion in many of you, but this i think is not the right example to set.

To conclude, i think the long term benefits of the tower far outweigh any (if any) negative short term impacts. Mobile phones are a reality of today's technological generation, and i do not think we can escape this.

I just want to finish by raising one point. If this 3G tower is so bad, why did i see many protestors using their mobile phones at oatley park. This is blatant hippocracy. Sure, you can say that this is 3G,not other technology, but what is the difference? What about the other communities with mobile phone towers in their 'backyards'?
How can you protest against something while you welcome in another sense?

Also a 17 y/o. I'm a girl who reguarly walks the dog through Oatly Park. Usually during the evening as I am studying at school through out the day. I hold a mobile phone close by as I am walking through the Park.. usually without a strong signal. Now I don't have any lights to illuminate parts of my route.
Why cant you use your "power of the people" to collect aid for humanitarean purposes in Iraq?
Webmaster, I don't need any information you've just collected from a book. You're an Oatley citizen with a couple of booklets. You've done more harm to yourself sitting out in the sun when you were a young person without sunscreen. What are you doing worrying about a tower which is probably better off staying in Oatley.
I have my email, I have no problem with the "protesters" spamming me w. most probably abuse. It just shows how mature you are.
