Subject: Analyzing Marquette's losses....and what it will take to win

Marquette lost to Wisconsin:

FG% Marquette 48% Wisc. 58%
3pt FG% Marquette 33% Wisc. 64%
Turnovers Marqu. 16 Wisc. 10
Rebounds Marqu. 27 Wisc. 28
Assists Marqu. 13 Wisc. 19
FT Marqu. 18-23 Wisc. 19-30

Marquette played 6 guys over 20 minutes and 2 guys over 10......Merritt and Nnamaka both fouled out.

Obviously Wisconsin just shot the lights out of the ball. It also appears they either passed well (assists) or the shots were just falling and giving guys the assists. Wisconsin got them in foul trouble and went to the line alot.

Wake Forest over Marquette:

Marqu. WF
FG% 38% 39%
3pt FG% 37% 28%
Turnovers 16 15
Assists 14 15
Rebounds 34 34
FT's 7-10 16-21

Blankson fouled out. 8 guys played over 20 minutes for Marquette. Stats are even but what stands out is that Wake got to the foul line more often. Appears to be the difference in the game. Marquette sure does hold their own on the rebounds.

Charlotte over Marquette:

Marquette Charlotte
FG% 43% 45%
3pt. 41% 30%
Turnovers 13 11
assists 10 13
rebounds 25 36
FT's 13-18 23-33

Blankson and Nnamaka fouled out. 5 guys over 20 minutes, 1 over 10 for Marquette.

Again, look at the free throws. And Charlotte outrebounded Marquette.

My opinion. Tough defense as always. Crash the boards, Marquette is not a fastbreak team, they play a controlled offense and don't get out of hand up and down the court, so crash the boards hard and outrebound them. Get them into foul trouble and get to the line. Obviously, a good shooting night would help ease our minds like Wisconsin. You're not going to rattle Marquette. You just have to outscore them and outhustle them for rebounds. Play smart offensively, don't turn the ball over and pass well, find the open man. It will take a near perfect game to win it. It's not impossible because we seem to play better when the competition is stiff. Hope it happens.
