A mourning bray was released. He had to leave Izzy and Voice; they would surely die by morn and were too weak to carry along. JOKER: The mare lopes with her stallion, urging son to follow. She casts a sad whinny also, directed back at the elders. FOOL: He dances around grandparents, not wanting to abandon these wonderful companions. Eventually his mother lures him away and he gallops off also. DICE: She whickers to Hamish, tentative to follow but soon racing off, not wanting to remain with her now irritated and saddened previous mate. IZZY and VOICE: The two shrilly whinny, trying to summon back their family. Voice attempts to rise but falls back, arthiritis taking its deadly toll now. They turned to each other for comfort.
