Social stories work really well with outings, going over what will be done, who they will see. Also if the appts involve sensory issues it's good to de-sensitize first, like ruffling their hair several times a day, even pulling it gently the way that haircutters do. Another good thing is to practice on a doll, go thru the steps, and go over what will be done, it's another visual concrete as to what will happen. hth & hope you don't mind me tossing my 2 cents in there as well!
