Subject: Well...here's a dilemna dropped in our lap!

So...looking for your take on this one.

As I think you all know, Laura's brother is a ticket broker (you say scalper, I say broker ;-) ) and he does far more than passingly well for himself. The true ticket brokers are a big business and Rod is one of...if not the biggest in New England.

Soooo...here's the dilemna. Rod needs help with the business...they are busy as heck and his right hand woman/office manager is having health problems in her family that are requiring her attention. He needs another employee and Rod has pretty much sworn off hiring anyone he doesn't know...lots of cash flowing through and it's too easy for someone to skim.

Solution? He wants to know if Laura would work for him. Part time...only 3 days a week...flexible schedule...extremely good money. More than I'm currently making as a lawyer.

The catch. The job is in Connecticut.

We really do like Maine...we've made friends...it's beautiful...work is going well (although we don't know exactly where it's headed...ie, partnership...yet and need to know soon anyway). Downside? Cost of living is high, wages are low...taxes are out of control...plus all those liberals, y'know? ;-) The only reason we're able to have Laura home with Andrew and Jack is because my parents have been generous in gifting. We'd prefer not to rely on that...especially in light of past events.

So...the downside is that we'd have to leave Maine but Laura could get part time work that makes it so that we didn't have to use any of my parents' money that they've gifted and it could grow into work that would net her in the six figures. I'm also in good shape at work to where I could get good recommendations and I've got quite a few lenders and Realtors that love me and would be good references.

Aaargh...we really don't want to move and I enjoy the lack of a commute, beautiful area and laid back lifestyle...but from a financial perspective it could make a lot of sense. Any thoughts?
