First...I'm not thinking less of you. That's a helluva situation you're facing and I know you're agonizing over it. I'm sorry you're facing such a dilemna.

While I really don't think I'd be able to make the decision to abort...even early on...I also don't think abortion at this point is such a black and white issue. 6 weeks is still early enough that I think there's a logical argument to be made that you haven't moved from cells to baby yet.

Let me explain where I'm coming from on the abortion thing...

Despite Dix/Clean's constant references to me being a "religious right Republican"...for me the abortion issue has absolutely nothing to do with religion. I'm simply not religious...seriously doubt the existence of God (definitely the existence of an "active" anthropormorphic God)...and don't see myself becoming active in any church.

That being said...I've still come to the conclusion that abortion is a moral wrong. BUT...because I don't have religious underpinnings for my position I don't believe that there's a "soul" from the moment of conception. The way that I personally look at the issue is that the cluster of cells at the very beginning may be the potential of human life...but it ain't there yet.

Once you've got a heartbeat and brainwaves? That sure as hell looks like a human to me. I just fail to see how people can look at a foetus at that point and say, "Nope. Just cells. No biggie."

The problem for the pro-choice side with that argument is that you get a heartbeat at like 4 weeks and brainwaves as early as 6 weeks. So...definitely no 2nd and 3rd trimester abortions...and you may lose a lot of 1st trimester ones too.

This is just my personal view on the issue...and one that obviously wouldn't fly with anyone who has religiously grounded objections to abortion.
