Subject: Hey Bud... I need some advice

An elderly couple was hit by a drunk driver resulting in about $100,000 in medical bills for the couple. Despite the facts that they were seriously injured and that the guy who hit them had 2 prior DUI's, the County Attorney gave the drunk a diversion.

The net result is it will be harder for the victims to recover any money in a civil trial and the drunk driver is back on the street.

Naturally, we'd love for this information to become public knowledge, but we haven't wanted to make the allegation ourselves since it would obviously be much more believable coming from an independent news source instead of from a political campaign.

All the facts are independently verifiable, we gave copies of all the records to the newspaper (off the record) and told the reporter exactly where they can go to verify that they are legit.

But for some reason, we're meeting resistance getting this story printed. What's going on here? If I were a reporter, I'd be on this story like white on rice. Does the guy have to actually kill somebody before this gets news value?
