If so, I'd call a press conference with your guy and the elderly couple. Naked political ploy? Yeah, but isn't that what people have come to expect. I'd have your boy lead off the press conference - lament this couple's situation and say he'd never let such a thing stand. Then bring them on stage to talk about their ordeal and how terrible it is to know that this guy is still out there with the power to hurt someone else.

Don't go into the civil trial stuff. Stick with the personal, not the financial.

If they are not willing to or in no position to cooperate, then I don't know what to tell you because you did the right thing in bringing it to the reporter's attention.
